Fly Fishing Stillwaters with Josh Rempel
2-Hour Classroom Workshop | Fred’s Custom Tackle – Abbotsford
Join us for an in-depth evening exploring one of B.C.’s most productive and rewarding fisheries — Interior Stillwaters. Stretching across nearly seven months of the season and known for producing trophy trout well into the double digits, these lakes are a cornerstone of fly fishing in our province.
Led by Josh Rempel — a die-hard fly angler and fisheries technician — this workshop dives into the key concepts, patterns, and techniques that make Stillwater fly fishing so effective and addictive. Josh will share his favourite insights, developed over years on the water, covering topics such as:
-
Entomology – understanding the bugs that drive trout feeding behaviour
-
Gear preferences – rods, lines, and setups that perform best on our lakes
-
Lake zones – how to break down structure and depth for success
-
Seasonal tactics – adapting to the time of year and water conditions
…and plenty more!
Whether you’re new to Stillwater fly fishing or looking to refine your approach, this class will give you the knowledge and confidence to make the most of your next trip to the interior.

About Josh Rempel
Josh Rempel’s passion for fly fishing began at the age of five on annual trips with his father to the lakes near Merritt, sparking a lifelong love for Stillwater angling. Over the years, that passion evolved into a deep commitment to exploring BC’s diverse fisheries—from interior lakes to rivers filled with trout and anadromous species. A former full-time staff member at Fred’s Custom Tackle, Josh has gained extensive experience in both retail and guiding. Now working as a Fisheries Technician, he continues to expand his knowledge and appreciation for BC’s incredible fish species. Josh looks forward to sharing his expertise and enthusiasm through Fred’s fly tying and fly fishing workshops.
